Stuffed
A JOURNEY INTO
Plush Sculpture.
I was invited to enter a piece for the Orlando City Arts Alice in Wonderland Show in April 2023. I was inspired to sew a creature made from recycled fabric, fuzzy purchased fabric and a few pieces that were sitting in storage. This project was full of challenges. First, how would he stand? I resorted to using some strong wire from Ace Hardware and perched him on top of some fat reinforced mushrooms.
My second challenge was finding a hookah that would be the right color and small enough. I have no previous knowledge of hookahs, but I visited all of the local smoke shops, until I finally found a beautiful floral printed hookah. It was great, but I really wanted it to be more of a gold-bronze color. So I ended up covering the entire hookah and pipe in fabric. What’s a few more hours of sewing anyway?

Stuffed was happily welcomed into the art show, and voted into the top ten among hundreds of pieces. His lazy button-eyed look captures your gaze, his fuzzy fabric begs to be touched, and his hookah can be used to burn incense.
